The Minor

300.00

The Minor (Nabalak) is the story of the metamorphosis of the protagonist. The memories of who he was and where he lived are important to him. When he was a child, he seldom thought of the future. This innocence left him free to enjoy as few adults can. The day he frets about the future is when he leaves his childhood behind. The truth of life is that we get farther away from the essence that is born within us. We get shouldered with burdens, things happen to us, loved ones die, and people lose their way for a reason or another. It’s not hard to do in this world of crazy mazes. Life does its best to take that memory of magic away from us. You don’t know it’s happening until one day we feel we have lost something, but you are not sure what it is. Childhood, after all, is the first precious coin.

About the Author

Ajay Swain (1958) is a well-known poet, lyricist, storyteller, novelist, and playwright. His creative journey started way back in 1982 with some powerful poetry and plays. He started writing stories and novels in the early 90s/ Nabalak (The Original Novel in Odia) was published in 1992 which blended nostalgia, emotions, and dreams of an Odia family along with a powerful storyline based on rural life and rural-urban migration. Many literary pundits have cited this work as the history of a joint, middle-class Odia family. Ajay Swain’s work can be differentiated from other contemporary writers for its poetic lucidity, experimental composition, and miraculous structuring. He is a very popular and much-discussed author of the current generation for his simplistic and metaphorical description of a larger, complex portrait of life. He has received many awards including Odisha Sahitya Academy Award for his book ‘Chitrita Chaupasa’. He currently lives in Bhubaneswar.
