Harlem re Rati (Night in Harlem) is interestingly, the latest Poem of Haraprasad Das which lends the title to this remarkable compilation. This compilation of Odia poems by Haraprasad Das, has been done specially in fulfilment of the mission of Black Eagle Books to bring the ethno-global nuances of the very finest Odia Poetry, to the sprawling Odia diaspora. It may come as a pleasant surprise to the readers that the Indian New Poetry has broken away from the modernist stranglehold of the Global-West and has reinvented its modernity in Poetry by reusing all renewable implements of its civilizational experience. The poetry of Haraprasad Das, recipient of the highest National Honors for his Poetry, bears testimony to this. This, in fact, is the creative ferment with which Indian Poetry goes global and Odia Poetry is led firmly into the Twenty-first Century ! By publishing this remarkable work, Black Eagle Books fulfils a mission of engaging the world with the best of Odia literature.

Description

About the Author

Haraprasad Das is often called the mythographer of contemporary times. His art of poetry is distinctly different from that of his peers and contemporaries in Indian Poetry for its nuanced formulation of words and images. He comes in the grand tradition of Poets who are deeply entrenched in their language and culture while imbibing the best of other cultures, through their long association with the larger World. Haraprasad Das, a professional Civil Servant, went on to work with multiple UN bodies in Geneva, Warsaw, Buenos Aires, London, Warsaw, Nairobi, Bangkok and the Hague. He has the vision of a world that is ultimately tethered to the inherent human condition. His Poetry springs from a fount of hope that while fantasies, delusions and failures continue to plague mankind, humanity survives ! Haraprasad Das has a huge body of works in Poetry spread over sixteen volumes, which include three epics. It is impossible to select representative poems from such a source, so this compilation showcases the most dominant traits instead. These poems would show how the rebellious, the romantic, the sardonic and the sublime spirits define the Poetry of this irrepressibly innovative Poet ! Haraprasad Das lives in Bhubaneswar in Odisha and is currently working on a chronicle of man’s fall from grace.
